    Preventing heatstroke in the elderly

To prevent heatstroke, it is important to stay hydrated and avoid excessive heat.

Be careful even indoors. Use the air conditioner wisely.

Heatstroke often occurs indoors and at night. Use the air conditioner appropriately and be mindful of saving electricity. Also, be sure to ventilate the room frequently even when using the air conditioner.

Check the temperature and Heat index.

     [Ventilation]

    - Use an electric fan or a ventilator. Be careful not to expose your body to the wind for long periods of time.

    - Ventilate the room to let in cool outdoor air

    - Open two places, such as a window and a door

    [Save electricity]

    - Clean your air conditioner filters regularly.

    - Set the room temperature appropriately.

    - Use blinds or curtains to block direct sunlight.

    - Avoid using multiple units and try to stay in one room.

[Further points to be aware of]

Even if you are not thirsty, replenish with fluids and salt. Aim for 1.2L per day (about 6 glasses).

    -One glass every hour

-Replenish fluids and salt before and after bathing and after waking up

*Follow your doctor's instructions regarding fluid and salt intake.

Elderly people need to be especially careful

    1. The body tends to lack fluids.

Older people have less fluid in their bodies than younger people, and they need a lot of urine to excrete waste products.

    2. Their ability to sense heat is reduced.

Aging reduces the sense of heat and thirst.

    3. The body's ability to regulate heat is reduced.

Older people tend to retain heat in their bodies, and when it's hot, it puts a greater strain on their circulatory system than younger people.

※Please consult your doctor if you have heart or kidney problems or a chronic illness.
