Expansion of child medical expenses subsidy: high school generation (from April 2024)

We will expand the eligibility of medical expense subsidies to include high school students, in order to ensure that children, who will be the future of Nagahama City, have the opportunity to receive medical care with peace of mind and to reduce the financial burden on families raising such children.

    Timing of expansion implementation

Expanded from April 1, 2024 for medical treatment.

    Q.Who is eligible?

Children from the first grade of elementary school (including compulsory education schools) to high school generation living in Nagahama city.

    Q. What are the free medical expenses?

Hospitalization (excluding meal expenses), outpatient (including dentistry), medicine, home-visit nursing, and Judo rehabilitation treatment expenses covered by health insurance.

※Fees not covered by health insurance (health checkups, vaccinations, room charge differences at the time of admission, document charges, etc.) and medical expenses due to third-party acts such as traffic accidents are not covered by the subsidy.

※Other publicly funded subsidies and high-cost medical expenses and supplementary benefits provided by the health insurance that you are enrolled in are excluded from the welfare medical expenses subsidy.

    Q. What should I do to get the grant?

By applying for a Child Medical Expenses Voucher to Nagahama City (Citizen Life Department Insurance and Pension Division, Northern Joint Government Building Kurashi Madoguchika, and each branch office), we will issue your child a "Children's Medical Expenses Voucher."

    Q. What should I do when I see a doctor?

When visiting a medical institution within the prefecture, presenting your child's My Number Health Insurance card, etc., and the "Child Medical Expense Subsidy Certificate" issued by Nagahama City at the reception desk will waive the out-of-pocket medical expenses.

The "Child Medical Expense Subsidy Certificate" cannot be used when receiving treatment at a medical institution outside the prefecture.

    Q. What if I have a medical examination at a medical institution outside Shiga prefecture?

When you receive treatment at a medical institution outside the prefecture, please pay your medical expenses at the counter and be sure to receive a receipt or statement showing the details of your treatment. From the following month onward, you can receive a subsidy (refund) for your medical expenses by applying for a refund to Nagahama City.

For details on the refund application procedure, please see "Refund Procedure" here.

    Q. When is the burden at the counter not free?

If you do not show your "Child Medical Expenses Voucher" at a medical institution in the prefecture, or if you receive a medical examination at a medical institution outside the prefecture, the burden at the counter will not be free.
