    Recruiting volunteers to work on multicultural coexistence activities

    Approximately 4,000 foreigners currently live in Nagahama City, and the number of permanent residents is increasing every year. Aiming to create a multicultural coexistence town where foreign citizens can live happily together with Japanese citizens, we are looking for volunteers who can help with Japanese language instruction for foreign residents, support multicultural coexistence and international exchange events, and serve as a liaison with the foreign community.


    Types and content of volunteering

    (1) Interpretation and translation

    Activities: Translation and interpretation for the purpose of multicultural coexistence from the city, city residents’ associations, organizations that provide exchange and support for foreigners, etc.

    ※Translation and interpretation for political, religious, and commercial purposes, as well as those related to judicial affairs and medical practices are not applicable.

    Registration requirements: Those who can interpret/translate from foreign languages to Japanese and from Japanese to foreign languages ※Language does not matter.

    (2) Introduction to Japanese culture and foreign culture

      Activities: Cultural introduction through projects aimed at multicultural coexistence and international exchange

    Registration requirements: Those who can introduce Japanese culture and the culture of other countries

    (3) Home stay

    Activities: Accepting homestay visitors from overseas when the city implements homestay programs such as sister city exchanges.

    Registration requirements: A family that can understand and respect different cultures

    (4) Japanese language instruction

    Activities: Japanese language instruction and support for foreign citizens, etc.

    Registration requirements: Experienced in teaching Japanese, or those who can teach Japanese with enthusiasm

    (5) Learning support for foreign children

      Activities: Learning support for foreign children (Japanese language, subject learning)

    Requirements for registration: Experienced as a school teacher, Japanese language educator, experienced in child-rearing or child support, or someone who is passionate about supporting learning.

    (6) Public relations activities

    Activity details: Utilizing SNS etc., support as a relay for information transmission so that information from the city reaches foreign citizens etc.

    Registration requirements: Those who have the tools to disseminate information to foreign citizens, etc.

    (7) Activities to spread easy Japanese

    Activity details: Participation in activities to spread easy Japanese

    Registration requirements: Those who have knowledge of simple Japanese, or those who have participated in a simple Japanese course held by the city.

    (8)  Multicultural events

    Activities: Cooperation with multicultural coexistence and international exchange events related to the city (planning, preparation, management, etc.)

    Registration requirements: Those who are interested in multicultural coexistence and international exchange events

    (8)  Support during disasters

      Activity details: Support for foreign citizens during disasters.

    Registration requirements: Those who understand and are motivated to support activities for foreigners during disasters.


    Registration conditions

    Those who understand the purpose of the project, can actively participate in volunteer activities in the community, and meet the following requirements:

      1. Those who meet the registration requirements for each of the above activity fields

      2. Persons over 16 years old. However, if you are under 18 years old, you will need the consent of your guardian.

    Registration period

     As a general rule, registration will continue until the registrant requests withdrawal. However, in the following cases, your registration as a volunteer will be cancelled.

    1. When the above registration conditions are no longer met.

    2. When it becomes impossible to contact you.

    3. When a fact occurs that makes the person unsuitable as a volunteer.

    Confidentiality

    Volunteers will not divulge personal information obtained through volunteer activities to others. The same applies even after you retire from volunteering.

    Rewards for volunteers

    As a general rule, rewards for volunteers are free of charge. However, the activities listed in (1) to (5) above may be provided for a fee depending on the content and upon consultation between the volunteer and the client. In this case, the fee shall be borne by the requester.


    Insurance coverage

    Regarding insurance for volunteer activities, in view of the content of the project, the client will be required to enroll in the "Volunteer Activity Insurance" etc. of the National Council of Social Welfare, a social welfare corporation, as necessary. If the volunteer does not have such insurance, it is the responsibility of the individual volunteer.
