Express issuance of My Number card

What is express issuance of My Number cards?
From December 2, 2024, people who particularly need a prompt issuance, such as newborns (under 1 year old), people needing a reissue due to loss, and people who have moved from abroad, will be able to receive their My Number cards within one week at the earliest.
※People who are not eligible for express issuance will need to apply normally (it takes about one month from application to issuance).

About fees
Fee for requesting a reissue of your My Number card through express issuance due to loss, etc.
Reissue fee: 2,000 yen (1,800 yen if you do not wish to have an electronic certificate issued)
※The reissue fee for regular applications that do not require express issuance is 1,000 yen (800 yen if you do not wish to have an electronic certificate issued)

When applying for a My Number Card at the same time as submitting a birth notification
You can apply for a My Number Card at the same time as submitting a birth notification.
You do not need to bring your child to the city hall in this case.
If the birth notification form has a section for applying for a My Number Card, you can apply for both at the same time by filling in the necessary information in that section.
If the birth notification form does not have a section for filling in the form, please fill in the application form at the counter and submit it together with the birth notification.
Application forms are also available at night and holiday counters.
In addition, from December 2, 2024, if a child under the age of 1 applies for the card, the My Number Card will not have a photo, so there is no need to submit a photo.
※If you apply for a My Number Card at the same time as submitting a birth notification at a city, ward, town, or village counter other than the one you live in, it will take more days than usual, so if you are in a hurry to receive your My Number Card, please complete the procedure at the city, ward, town, or village counter where you live.
You can apply for express issuance even after you have registered the birth, but in that case, both your child and their legal representative will need to come to the office and provide identification documents for each person, so we recommend that you apply for express issuance at the same time as registering the birth.

How to receive your My Number card
After submitting your application, your My Number card will be sent directly to your home by registered mail with no forwarding required.
However, if the following applies to you, you will need to collect your card at the counter.
※It may take up to one week to receive your card.
• Those who do not have a photo ID at the time of application
• Those who have had their mail forwarded
• Those who wish to receive a face recognition card
• Those who wish to have their preferred characters used as alternative characters on their electronic certificate
